On the 2nd of September, 2009, the 30kW capacity Udmaroo MHPU in Nubra block was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India, and the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Jenab Omar Abdullah. Also present on the occasion were Mr. S S Kapoor, Chief Secretary Jammu & Kashmir, Mr. Tsetan Namgyal, MLA, Nubra, and Mr Mohd Khan, Executive Councillor.

The 30kw MHPU was built with assistance from BORDA and GERES. It is providing electricity to the entire 90 households in the village. Besides providing lighting, it has also helped the villagers to improve their livelihoods by enabling the use of end user machines like sawing machine, pulping machine, flour mill etc. that are used during the day.
