In 2003-2007, LEDeG installed a solar photovoltaic power plant at Tangtse, with support from ICEF, MNRE and LAHDC. The power pant continuously supplies electricity to over 350 households, for five hours in a day, and has completely replaced the existing 250kVa Diesel Generator of the Power Development Department of the Government.

Aims and Objectives:
- Capacity development of the community to operate and maintain renewable energy technologies and to replicate such projects on their own over a period of time.
- Development and utilisation of renewable energy sources, particularly solar for providing clean energy in Durbuk block leading to improvements in its environment and quality of life of the people.
- Ensure enhanced income to the community by identifying available natural resources, formation of SHGs, provision of training in income generation activities like handicrafts, eco-tourism, maintenance of solar technologies etc.
- Suggest models for meeting energy needs of people in similar areas not reachable by grid in a decentralised manner.
Project outcomes:
- Installation of 4x25kWp solar photovoltaic power plant at Tangtse
- Retrofitting of 135 solar houses using passive solar architecture or Trombe wall technology
- Distribution of 300 solar dish cookers (SK-14)
- Distribution of 500 solar box cookers
- Distribution of 630 improved smokeless Chullah (stove)
- Installation of five solar submersible pumps and five solar surface pumps
- Up-gradation and solarization of 10 Community Health Centres
- Establishment of eight eco-tourism units at Durbuk Laga, Mugleb, Spangmik, Tangtse.
- Formation and promotion of 12 women Self Help Groups for handicraft development.
